There’s probably nothing more relaxing than a day at the beach – especially when that beach is located on an island paradise! If you’ve been thinking about taking a trip to Puerto Rico, you should know the Rincón area is full of beautiful beaches that are sure to suit anyone. In fact, there are more than a dozen beaches spanning a distance of eight miles. So whether you enjoy surfing and paddle boarding, swimming in the ocean, or just wading and sunbathing, there’s a beach for you in Rincón.
Here are just a few of the beaches you should try to visit during your Rincón vacation:
Rincón Balneario: Located at the marina in Rincón, the Balneario is a perfect beach for swimming, snorkeling, and collecting shells and sea glass. This beach is very family-friendly and is enjoyed by both locals and tourists alike. There are amenities such as free parking, changing rooms, rest rooms, and places to picnic. It’s also within close proximity to restaurants and shops.
Domes Beach: When you visit Domes Beach, you will notice right away it lives up to its name – there is a large dome situated on the hill behind the beach. This was the dome of the former nuclear plant located there, but no worries – it now is being converted into a science center/museum. Domes Beach is a great location for surfing, as well as whale-watching.
Maria’s Beach: Maria’s Beach is the place for surfing not only in Rincón, but also in Puerto Rico. In fact, this was where the 1968 World Surfing Championship was held. The waves at Maria’s are very energetic, and the shoreline is somewhat rocky, so it isn’t the best option for swimming. However, you can enjoy wading in the water, sunbathing, watching the amazing waves – and be sure to look for the pelicans feeding on passing schools of fish.
Steps Beach: Steps Beach is named for a set of cement steps that are situated on the beach and is located in the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve. Steps is definitely a surfing beach during the surfing season (November through March), but becomes very calm and amenable to swimming during the summer season.
Indicators Beach: While not a swimming beach, Indicators, which is located down the hill from the El Faro de Punta Higuero lighthouse, is extremely beautiful. It’s secluded and features an amazing view of the ocean, and is perfect for a walk along the beach and a relaxing getaway.
